Experiments

Welcome to Form Of The Week! Every week I will (try my best to) post a new form that I make out of different types of material. The point of this page is purely to meditate on how material can transcend what we expect of it and become something completely new (and hopefully interesting.)

FIBER

This next form is still in progress. I want to explore certain qualities of fiber. I am mostly interested in tension. I am working on a vase whose top and bottom is made out of wood but the middle is held up by nylon cord saturated with epoxy resin. I am striving to capture the essence of tension. I am still working out the final form, but I leave you with some sketches for now.

I am interested (as illustrated earlier in this blog) in how two starkly different materials can transition beautifully into one another. And it is my hope that I can design such a form that allows the nylon cord and the wood (probably desert ironwood) to seamlessly blend into one another
