Experiments

Welcome to Form Of The Week! Every week I will (try my best to) post a new form that I make out of different types of material. The point of this page is purely to meditate on how material can transcend what we expect of it and become something completely new (and hopefully interesting.)

FIBER VASE

Walnut Claro + Braided Nylon Cord + Music Wire

In this form study I wanted to celebrate fiber and emphasize its many characteristics. I felt that the best way to emphasize its characteristics would be to have it contrast another material, wood. I find fiber's ability to be in tension to be quite beautiful and I wanted to make a vase that celebrated that quality. As illustrated in the video and the photos, this vase takes on somewhat of an interactive quality to it, inviting the user to have objects held up by the tension of the string (with a spring steel core)
